Korean slang: 5 words

Tonight for the "soft" Saturday night column we’ll talk about the Korean "Slang", words that often if you look at K-Dramas you have surely already heard at least one vote, but that will certainly give more value to your personal Korean dictionary, especially if you are studying this language, do you want to do it or just want to impress your friends!

1. 꿀잼 (kkuljaem)


It is used for:

indicate something interesting and funny motorcycle


The word is composed of:

꿀 (kkul) meaning honey and 잼 (jaem) abbreviation of 재미있어요 (jaemiisseoyo) meaning interesting.


2. 노잼 (nojaem)


It is used for:

indicate something we do not find amusing or interesting, is the opposite of 꿀잼 (kkuljaem)


The word is composed of:

노 (no) yes to English, which is understood as no or is not and from 잼 (jaem) abbreviation of 재미있어요 (jaemiisseoyo) which means interesting


3.모쏠 (mossol)


It is used to:

indicate someone who has never been engaged


The word is:

the abbreviation of 모태솔로 (motae sollo) where the first word 모태 (motae) means mother’s womb while 솔로 (sollo) indicates who has never been in a relationship.


!! Be careful to use this word because it is not exactly polite, if you want to use it as a joke with Korean friends you might get very angry.


4. 만렙 (mallep)


It is used to indicate:

a person who is very good at something, so good that they excelled easily over others.


It can be used in different contexts:

for someone very good in the kitchen, in the study or even if he just did something amazing! It literally means "Level 10,000" a call to RPG games where to continue the game and win you have to raise level until you reach the highest one.


5. 멘붕 (menbung)


It is used to indicate:

a state of mental breakdown. The word consists of mental "멘붕" (mental) or something related to the mind and 붕괴 (bunggoe) which means decay, collapse.


It shall be used:

Often at first when you are mentally exhausted maybe after a long session of study or work or when at the last moment you remember you have to do something but you had already made other commitments.
